PROFONDEUR
DEPTH
Depth is one of the fundamental principles in SORO’s work. It can unfold inward, through layering, transparency and the succession of planes, as well as outward, through relief and volume.
The surface is no longer perceived as a boundary, but as a threshold between different spaces. The viewer’s gaze moves through the work, travels across its various planes, and encounters a perception that shifts according to the point of view.
Depth thus becomes a true dimension of construction — material, spatial and perceptual.
ATMOSPHERE CHROMATIQUE
CHROMATIC ATMOSPHERE
Color is one of the foundations of SORO’s visual language. It is approached as a search for chromatic balance, where each hue finds its place in a precise relationship with the others.
Through the study of complementary colors, SORO develops a rule specific to her work. Each palette combines two complementary colors with the hue created by their pigmentary mixture.
This third color becomes a point of balance. It connects the two opposing hues without diminishing their contrast. In doing so, it creates unity while preserving the chromatic tension of the composition.
Color thus becomes a true structural element of the work. It contributes to both its visual identity and its internal balance.
LUMIERE
LIGHT
Naturally, her research into color leads SORO to explore the phenomenon of light.
Internal light emerges through the use of gradients and chromatic transitions. It gives color a sense of depth and creates the impression that luminosity comes from within the work itself.
External light, by contrast, is introduced through the careful selection of materials with specific optical properties: transparency, translucency and reflection. Ambient light then becomes an active component of the work. It reveals volumes, passes through materials and alters the perception of color.
Light therefore does more than simply illuminate the work: it becomes an integral part of its construction and visual experience.
TRAIT
LINE
The line is one of the elements that gives the work its direction. It defines its forms, establishes rhythm within the composition, and contributes to the image as it takes shape.
In SORO’s work, it can take two distinct forms. One is structural, informed by the architecture of rose windows. The other is organic, inspired by the freedom and movement of Art Nouveau. Between rigour and spontaneity, the line guides the creation and gradually traces its destiny.
When it unfolds across several planes, the line takes on a new dimension. It is no longer read solely on the surface: it enters into space and transforms the perception of the whole.
As the viewer moves, the lines overlap, separate, or intersect. Their relationships shift and reveal new structures.
The line therefore does more than construct the image: it contributes to a work in constant recomposition.
REVERSE PAINTING TECHNIQUE
SORO has the distinctive practice of painting in reverse. The work therefore develops in an unusual order: the elements intended to appear in the foreground must be painted before those that will form the background. This inversion requires a genuine mental exercise, great precision and complete control of the gesture, as each stage directly determines the next.
